Our remote/blended teaching approach 

All efforts were made in preparation for the unfortunate necessity of children to learn remotely and staff to teach from home too. 

 

In order to enable the school to be as effective as possible we strategically invested in the following:

 

• New laptops for all teachers and 60 further laptops for the children
• New servers/networking and wifi access to enable Win10 and Microsoft teams/SharePoint
• A specific interim remote-enabling computing curriculum
• An investment in ClassDOJO to support communication during local/national restrictions

Welcoming the children back to school

 

Following the third national lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government's initial action was to open up schools again for all children to rightly return. This happened on Monday 8th March. We all hope and pray that this was the last time, restricted access into schools is imposed upon us, as our children need to be in school to achieve and surpass their ambitions.

 

We now focus our energy on unpicking and overcoming the detrimental effects that this pandemic has had on our community, not just academically, but also in relation to our mental and physical health.

Helping the children to catch up on what they have missed

Having had an effective remote/blended teaching approach in place we are confident that we minimised any lost learning during the third national lockdown. Gaps catch-up however not only relates to academia: Unravelling gaps in social and emotional skills, as well as physical health, are paramount to enable children to lead long healthy lives.

 

As a school, we are dedicated to ensuring that we rectify the detrimental effects of this pandemic. This will be achieved in a strategic manner that does not create an issue if children becoming anxious about needing to catch up, having heard it relentlessly in the press. 

 

Public Health England have produced a letter for schools to distribute to parents which explains when a person requires a coronavirus test and what the symptoms of coronavirus are. The Department would be grateful if you could share and circulate this letter amongst parents at your school.

The intention of the letter is to help prevent children being taken out of school unnecessarily and answer some of the questions parents may have around testing.
